Waves
What's a Wave?
Waves are a new way of sharing memories in your Pods on Orca. Only people who have shared a memory into a Wave are able to see the other posts. Instead of sharing normally with a Pod, you can select Wave Mode to make the memory appear hidden until others join the Wave. They'll see a message in their feed prompting them to pick a recent memory or throwback to contribute. When they select something to share, they'll be able to view your memory like normal.
The best thing about Waves is that they grow as more people share. Each new sharer can see all the previous contributions. Waves are designed to solve the uneven nature of sharing in small groups and make a bigger splash.
You can read more in our launch blog post.
Sharing Restrictions
Waves are currently only available on the latest version of our iOS app (v3.45.0 and higher). Unfortunately that means you won't be able to share with Android pals in these early days. It's in the works though!
FAQ
You'll be surprised by how intuitive sharing to Waves is, regardless of the complexity behind the scenes. We're here to clear up a few concepts though:
How do I share to a Wave?
Tap the 🌀 button on the moment uploader to open the sharing popup. From here tap the "Pods Mode" button to see more options including Waves. Once you select Waves, you'll be able to pick the Pods to share with. If a Pod has Waves that you haven't joined yet, you'll be abe to select them from a list - or make a new one.
Can a memory be in multiple Waves?
Yes! Each memory can be added to one Wave per Pod, but there's no limit on how may you can select. You could make a new Wave for all twenty of your Pods (if you have that many).
If I "Join" a Wave, who can see my memory?
When you join a Wave, you must select the Pod(s) you share with. If you only join a Wave in Pod Y, then only people in Pod Y who join the Wave can see your memory.
Can a memory be in Waves and normal Pod sharing?
To simplify things, memories must be in Waves OR Classic mode. If you've shared a memory in any Pods normally, it cannot be added to a Wave.
Can any memory be shared to Waves?
Only memories with photos or video can be added to a Wave. It's no fun to share-back and see a tiny sentence!
